July 18, 2014 – Indianapolis – Methodist Sports Medicine (MSM) orthopedic surgeons and athletic trainers return to the football sidelines for the 48th annual North vs. South All-Star football classic, at North Central High School. The game culminates a week-long series of practices and activities for recent high school graduates who excelled at their respective schools. MSM Orthopedic Surgeons Tom Klootwyk, M.D. and Jonathan Smerek, M.D., will be on the sidelines along with athletic trainers Sara Simmons, ATC, and Bruce Willard, ATC, as official sports medicine providers of the all-stars.
Methodist Sports Medicine is also a proud sponsor of the North vs. South All-Star Classic banquet which took place on July 17th at Primos Banquet Hall in Indianapolis. The game and festivities surrounding the event, historically marks the close of the players’ high school careers, and ushers in the start of a new season, where many have earned college football scholarships.
The teams were housed at the University of Indianapolis during the week leading up to the game where Simmons and Willard provided athletic training services at daily practices. Dr. Klootwyk, who serves as team physician for Fishers High School, Indiana State University and the Indianapolis Colts specializes in injuries and conditions of the knee. Dr. Smerek, who was the team physician at Center Grove High School during the 2013-14 school year, specializes in foot and ankle injuries and conditions. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00pm, on Friday July 18.
