Dr. Sallay specializes in shoulder and knee reconstruction, arthroscopic surgery and sports medicine.
As someone who enjoys fine art and cooking, Dr. Sallay has a great appreciation for the combination of art and science that can be found in the practice of orthopedics. A surgeon for nearly 20 years, Dr. Sallay has written numerous articles dealing with a wide variety of subjects including shoulder, knee and muscle injuries. He has also presented on a number of orthopedic topics around the world. His focus includes all shoulder surgery: advanced arthroscopic techniques (arthroscopic rotator cuff repair, ligament tightening, labral repairs etc.), shoulder joint replacement and shoulder reconstruction. He also performs arthroscopic knee ligament reconstruction, meniscal surgeries and kneecap realignment surgery.
Dr. Sallay is the team physician and orthopedic consultant for Cathedral High School athletics and has served in a similar role at Hanover College. An avid tennis fan and recreational player, he was the orthopedic consultant for the Indy Tennis Championships until the tournament moved to Atlanta after the 2009 event. He recently authored several Healthy Tennis articles for Midwest Tennis magazine, and in 2012 produced a series of online videos to address commonly asked questions from tennis players and parents.
The son of Hungarian immigrant parents, Dr. Sallay was born in Philadelphia, PA, and grew up in Fort Wayne, IN. He earned his bachelor’s degree in chemistry with honors from Purdue University and completed his medical degree at Indiana University School of Medicine in 1988. After a five-year residency, Dr. Sallay completed a one-year fellowship in sports medicine at Duke University, focusing primarily on shoulder and knee evaluation/treatment.
Dr. Sallay is the proud father of four children. He is fluent in Hungarian, and along with tennis, enjoys weight training, woodworking, cooking, wine, art and computers.

AccomplishmentsDr. Sallay has given many talks on an international, national, and local level to orthopedic surgeons, primary care physicians, athletic trainers, physical therapists and non-medical audiences. He has been invited repeatedly by the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons to serve as a faculty instructor, teaching advanced arthroscopic skills to orthopedic surgeons from the U.S. and abroad. He also serves as a peer reviewer for the American Journal of Sports Medicine.
