Dr. Stephen Ritter is the first spine specialist to practice at Methodist Sports Medicine.

Dr. Ritter specializes in the treatment of injuries and conditions of the spine, including cervical, thoracic and lumbar deformities and degenerative abnormalities. Dr. Ritter has tailored his practice to benefit his patients, utilizing various options for minimal access surgery. He is also skilled in some newer lateral approach surgeries through small incisions, which can reduce operating time, blood loss and recovery time by minimizing the collateral damage induced by traditional spine surgery.

A native of Davenport, Iowa, Dr. Ritter played for the Luther College varsity soccer team and currently practices with his brother Mark, who is also a member of the Methodist Sports Medicine practice. Dr. Ritter is a member of the Society of Lateral Access Surgery, the North American Spine Society and the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons.
