  • Biography

    Dr. Thurman Alvey is a primary care sports medicine specialist. His interests include acute musculoskeletal injury, concussion management, exercise prescription, sports dermatology, and medical conditions in athletes. Dr. Alvey employs a comprehensive approach to his patient care from injury through rehab and into prevention of future injuries. He has specialized training in musculoskeletal ultrasound and osteopathic manipulative medicine to assist in the non-operative care of his patients. After receiving his medical degree in 2003 and prior to completing his fellowship, Dr. Alvey spent five years as a member of the teaching faculty for the Union Hospital Family Medicine Residency practicing full-spectrum family medicine. His research interests include injury prevention, sports performance, chronic tendinopathy, regenerative biomedicine and concussion management. Dr. Alvey is a member of the American Osteopathic Association, the American College of Sports Medicine, the American College of Osteopathic Family Physicians, the American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine, the American Osteopathic Association of Sports Medicine, and the Indiana Osteopathic Association. A native of Franklin, Indiana, Dr. Alvey was a multi-sport athlete throughout high school and college. He is an avid supporter of scholastic wrestling, having coached at the developmental, middle school, high school and collegiate levels. He and his wife, April, have four daughters. Areas of Focus
