“Life goes on so we may as well be a part of it and participate as fully as we can. That’s why my goal is to provide the most thorough, thoughtful and personal care to all my patients so they can stay in the game and
enjoy the ride.” – John Hur, MD

Bio

Dr. John Hur specializes in orthopedic adult hip, knee reconstruction and trauma.

As Dr. Hur will tell you, outside of his own marriage, being an orthopedic surgeon is the perfect marriage, combining his first love, engineering, with his greatest love, medicine. He’ll also be quick to tell you that his greatest loves are actually his wife and children, and they remind him of that quite often. Dr. Hur graduated from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge, Mass., with a bachelor’s degree in aeronautical engineering in 1993. There he was also captain and quarterback of his college Division III football team. He worked at an investment banking firm on Wall Street for two years before moving on to pursue a career in the field of medicine. He received his medical degree from SUNY Health Science Center at Syracuse, New York, and completed his residency in orthopedic surgery at Brown University in Rhode Island.

His passion for knowledge and desire to be a leader in whatever he does is evidenced by the fact that Dr. Hur furthered his training with a comprehensive Orthopedic Trauma Fellowship at Brown with Dr. Peter Trafton as well as the prestigious Adult Hip and Knee Reconstruction Fellowship Program at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York City. He began practicing at Methodist Sports Medicine / The Orthopedic Specialists in 2006 and has quickly developed an affinity for the city and people of Indianapolis. “Folks in Indianapolis are such pleasant, hard-working, salt-of-the-earth people. It’s an honor to be able to serve them and the Indianapolis community.”

Dr. Hur is the Medical Director of Orthopedics and Joint Replacement as well as the Medical Director of Rehabilitation at the Clarian North Medical Center where he operates. He is clearly intent on perfecting patient care and satisfaction for orthopedic patients at his hospital.

Dr. Hur is a board member of the Arthritis Foundation Indiana Chapter.

He is also volunteer faculty at IU's School of Medicine in the Department of Orthopaedics.

His career interests are in continuing to improve hip and knee replacements through research and design. He is always on the cutting edge and currently uses the latest state of the art techniques such as computer assisted total knee replacement, minimally invasive hip and knee surgery, and Birmingham Hip Resurfacing.

He also understands that it takes more than surgical expertise to improve his patients' quality of life. Dr. Hur takes his time with his patients to make sure all of their questions and concerns are addressed before and after surgery. He works hard with his anesthesiologists and nurses to help keep patients comfortable after surgery to enable them to have the most pleasant experience possible. Finally, he ensures that all of his patients receive the best possible rehabilitation using select dedicated and caring therapists. Dr. Hur says his greatest joy and reward is seeing all his patients back happy and more active.
