Bio

Dr. Smerek specializes in reconstructive foot and ankle surgery and sports medicine.

Dr. Jonathan Smerek attended the University of Notre Dame as an undergraduate, majoring in mechanical engineering, and obtained a masters degree in biomedical engineering from Renssalaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, New York. Dr. Smerek was also on the Notre Dame Track and Field team. The opportunity to combine the science of mechanical and biomedical engineering with a love of sports, allows Dr. Smerek to enjoy the best of both worlds, which reinforces his passion for helping others remain active and pain-free.

A graduate of the medical school at the University of Cincinnati, Dr. Smerek completed his residency in orthopedic surgery at The Ohio State University. He completed a Foot and Ankle Fellowship with Dr. Mark Myerson and Dr. Cliff Jeng at the Institute for Foot and Ankle Reconstruction in Baltimore, Maryland.

Dr. Smerek is dedicated to creating a center for foot and ankle excellence at Methodist Sports Medicine / The Orthopedic Specialists with Dr. David Porter, encompassing the best in conservative and operative foot and ankle care.

Dr. Smerek is a native of Hiram, Ohio. His wife, Carrie, is also from his hometown, and has given up her career as a dietician to enjoy her newfound role as a stay-at-home mom for their son, Bryce.
