Bio

Dr. Sallay specializes in shoulder and knee reconstruction, arthroscopic surgery, and sports medicine.

Dr. Peter Sallay (pronounced like "chalet") was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and subsequently grew up in Fort Wayne, Indiana, the son of Hungarian immigrant parents. He earned his bachelor’s degree in chemistry with honors from Purdue University and completed his medical degree at Indiana University School of Medicine in 1988. He was accepted to a five-year residency in orthopedic surgery at Indiana University School of Medicine, which he completed in 1993. Subsequently Dr. Sallay completed a one-year fellowship in sports medicine at Duke University in North Carolina, which focused primarily on shoulder and knee evaluation/treatment. He has been certified by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgeons.

As someone who enjoys fine art and cooking, Dr. Sallay has a great appreciation for the combination of art and science that can be found in the practice of orthopedics. Practicing for almost 14 years, Dr. Sallay has written numerous articles dealing with a wide variety of subjects including shoulder, knee and muscle injuries. He has also presented on a number of orthopedic topics around the world. He is a member of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, American Society for Sports Medicine, Piedmont Orthopedic Society, and the Indiana Orthopedic Society. His focus includes all shoulder surgery including: advanced arthroscopic techniques (arthroscopic rotator cuff repair, ligament tightening, labral repairs etc.), shoulder joint replacement, shoulder reconstruction. He also performs arthroscopic knee ligament reconstructions, meniscal surgeries, and kneecap realignment surgery.

Dr. Sallay is the proud father of four children. He is fluent in Hungarian, and he enjoys weight training, tennis, woodworking, cooking, wine, art and computers.
