Bio

Dr. Klootwyk specializes in knee reconstruction, arthroscopic knee surgery and sports medicine.

As a high school athlete in Indiana, Dr. Thomas Klootwyk developed an interest early on in sports-related injuries and the science involved in facilitating a recovery. That interest has turned into a career spanning 15 years and counting. Over the course of his career, Dr. Klootwyk has published 23 articles and chapters in national publications, given 17 national and over 70 local presentations on knee surgery, rehabilitation, and ligament reconstruction, and is entering his eighth year as the team physician for the Super Bowl Champion Indianapolis Colts. Dr. Klootwyk brings his knowledge and expertise to each individual patient he sees whether it be a professional athlete or any other member of the Indianapolis community.

After earning his medical degree with High Honors from Indiana University School of Medicine in 1986, Dr. Klootwyk completed internship and residency in orthopedic surgery at The State University of New York at Syracuse. He completed his fellowship training in sports medicine with an emphasis on knee injury treatment at Methodist Sports Medicine / The Orthopedic Specialists (MSM/TOS) and joined the practice in 1992. Married for 24 years and a father of three girls, Dr. Klootwyk understands the importance of listening and being attentive to the needs of individuals.

Dr. Klootwyk is a member of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, and the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine. He is one of three physicians in the state of Indiana who belongs to the ACL Study Group, which is an international selection of knee surgeons who meet bi-annually for one week to study and discuss advancements in the treatment of ACL injuries.

A native of Bloomington, Indiana, Dr. Klootwyk is a 1978 graduate of Bloomington High School South where he played football and basketball. He graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Indiana University in 1982.

Dr. Klootwyk also belongs to the International Cartilage Repair Society, the Indiana Athletic Trainers Association, and the NFL Physicians Society.
