September 6, 2014 – Indianapolis – Methodist Sports Medicine physicians begin their 31st consecutive NFL season providing medical care for the Indianapolis Colts in grand fashion, traveling to Denver for a Sunday night showdown with the reigning AFC champion Broncos, and former Colts’ superstar Peyton Manning. Covering the game on the Colts sidelines for the nationally televised NBC game is lead team physician Arthur Rettig, M.D., shoulder specialist Gary Misamore, M.D., and concussion management consultant, Henry Feuer, M.D.
The season opener is chalked full of interesting side plots as the Colts go up against their former quarterback for the second time in as many years. Indy came out on top in a hard fought game in mid-October of 2013. This time the Colts will be without one of their leading defensive weapons as pass rushing specialist Robert Mathis serves the first of a NFL imposed four-game suspension for violating league policy on performance enhancing substances. Second year player Bjoern Werner will have large shoes to fill at his outside linebacker position in filling the void.
The game will also mark the regular season return of Colts wide receiver Reggie Wayne who suffered a season ending knee injury in last year’s clash with the Broncos. Kickoff is scheduled for 8:20pm (EDT) and can be heard locally over WLHK-FM 97.1 and WFNI-AM 1070 TheFan and 107.5 FM.
