Due to the circumstances surrounding the novel COVID-19, if your treatment here is not emergent and if you have traveled outside the country or are exhibiting flu-like symptoms, Methodist Sports Medicine asks that you cancel your appointment. Patients will not be allowed to have children or guests accompany them for their visit unless they are essential to their care. Erich Weidenbener

Orthopedic Sports Medicine Specialist

Dr. Weidenbener received his undergraduate degree at Indiana University and graduated from the IU School of Medicine in 1987. After completing his residency at St. Vincent's (Indianapolis) he completed a two-year Sports Medicine Fellowship at Methodist Sports Medicine.

He joined Bloomington Bone and Joint Clinic in 1993. With the merger of BBJ and Methodist Sports Medicine in 2018 Dr. Weidenbener is very pleased to be reunited with some of his former mentors and colleagues. He is board-certified in Sports Medicine.

Dr. Weidenbener has extensive experience treating athletic injuries in adolescents, high school and collegiate athletes as well as adult recreational athletes of all ages. His goal is to keep all patients active and physically fit through all stages of life. 

In addition to athletic injuries, his scope of practice includes non-surgical general orthopedic injuries and trauma. He provides non-surgical fracture care, treats spinal problems and has comprehensive experience in worker's compensation injuries. 
 
While growing up in Evansville, IN Dr. Weidenbener developed a love of sports and fitness training. He continues to be a fitness enthusiast and promotes health and wellness in the Bloomington community. Weidenbener has donated his time and expertise to many charitable organizations in Bloomington over the years.
 
Dr. Weidenbener and his wife, Lisa, raised five children and currently enjoy country living as empty-nesters on their farm. They both enjoy fitness training and Lisa teaches Pilates classes and other fitness classes at the YMCA and other local studios. Dr. Weidenbener enjoys all outdoor activities including golf, yard work, gardening, camping, and alpine skiing. He especially enjoys high altitude hiking and trekking. He has climbed 4 "Fourteeners" in Colorado and in 2017 completed a trek to Mount Everest Base Camp in Nepal.
