Stephen Ritter

Stephen Ritter

Board-Certified Orthopedic Spine Surgeon

Born and raised in Iowa, Dr. Stephen Ritter played NCAA soccer throughout college. He attended the University of Iowa for medical school, the University of Utah for his orthopedic surgery residency, and completed his training with a spine surgery fellowship at the prestigious Cleveland Clinic Foundation in Cleveland, Ohio.

In 2008, Dr. Ritter became a partner at Methodist Sports Medicine, where he has built a busy practice primarily focused on both the surgical and nonsurgical care of degenerative and deformity spine conditions.

During his years of private practice as a back doctor, Dr. Ritter has become a leading expert in the adoption and refinement of modern back surgery approaches that prioritize improving outcomes with less pain and collateral damage than those from traditional techniques and treatments.

Outside of the office, Dr. Ritter helps educate orthopedic fellows and industry professionals about spine surgery. He has served as a spine surgery consultant for the Indianapolis Colts and for the NFL combine for the past 10 years. He is also the co-founder of a software company delivering improved care to post-surgical patients.

Dr. Ritter spends his leisure time with family and friends, maintaining his fitness, and traveling when possible.
