Frequently Asked Questions

Get the help you need to decide where and when to seek treatment.

Our orthopedic urgent care clinics are designed to provide immediate care for acute issues. Each orthopedic urgent care clinic gives you access to a specialist right away instead of an expensive trip to the emergency room. However, in some cases it’s best to make an appointment directly with the Methodist Sports Medicine physician who specializes in your specific needs. Our orthopedic triage specialists can help you decide which option is best for you.

Come to an orthopedic urgent care clinic if:

  • You were injured within the past 48 hours
  • You were injured playing sports or doing daily activities and the injury prevents you from playing or going about your regular schedule
  •  You think you might have a concussion

Schedule an appointment if:

  • You have a workers’ compensation case
  • You have chronic pain
  • Your injury occurred more than 48 hours ago, and your pain is manageable

Our practice handles orthopedic and sports injuries, including urgent care, but sometimes an injury requires immediate, emergency care.

Use your best judgment about going to an emergency room instead of an orthopedic urgent care clinic, particularly in cases that include:

  • Loss of consciousness
  • Head or neck injuries
  • Sudden, severe, and increasing pain that does not subside with rest or ice
  • Severe bleeding
  • Protruding bones

In many cases, however, you can save time and money by visiting a Methodist Sports Medicine Orthopedic Urgent Care Clinic. For injuries that are acute but not life-threatening, our orthopedic urgent care clinics in Carmel and Greenwood help you see a specialist faster so you get the care you need right away.
